December 14, 2019.
An exploration of control and chaos within the grid-system. Inspired by the work of Wolfgang Weingart.

I had been working part time as a production assistant in the art department for film and TV.  I was helping to decorate sets - using props, furniture and plants to create environments to shoot scenes in. I thought it would be interesting to use physical objects instead of images to create a poster for an upcoming gig. The concept explores the idea of exploiting the human ego to influence perception and generate capital. It seemed appropriate, as most gig posters nowadays were used primarily online and on social media platforms to promote events.

My initial concept was to create artwork inspired by Gee Vaucher (CRASS) and her surreal collage work; using the aesthetic to explore an issue relevant to the current digital age. The end result puts the viewer somewhere in the midst of a bad acid trip, 2001: A Space Odyssey and a love/hate relationship with smartphone technology.

2013-2019.
S.H.I.T.mas is a holiday celebration for outcasts, misfits and those who generally prefer noise to actual music - a festivus for the rest of us, if you will. It typically falls between Xmas and New Years, organized by members of Toronto punk band S.H.I.T. This special holiday party features live band performances, gifts, giveaways, a ‘Feast of Shame’, and donates all money raised at the door to local oranizations. The aim is to exploit the spectacle of the holiday season in order to bring people together and give something back during a time of mass consumersim.

The event always proved to be a great success, typically gathering over 300 attendees and raising thousands of dollars for organizations such as Planned Parenthood Toronto, Native Women's Resource Centre of Toronto and Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multicultural Women Against Rape.

A collaboration with Toronto artist Lia Lepre, this poster was an opportunity to explore a more tactile approach to poster design. Using a personalized office stamp set, I added text and typographic arrangements to give shape and context to abstract forms.

Using the aesthetic and visual language of yellow page classifieds and flyers for discount products, I wanted to explore the idea that subculutre was just another cheap product for young consumers. The band names are used as the products being advertised and the ‘prices’ indicate the time slot that each band was set to play that night.

November 16, 2013.
A play with positive/negative space inspired by DISCHARGE’s “You Take Part In Creating The System”.

July 1, 2011.
Taking place on the weekend of Canada Day and U.S. Independence Day, this gig brought together bands and attendees from both sides of the border. I wanted to suggest an idea of freedom and unity that exists outside of the nationalities and borders that divide us. Lyrics by SIDE BY SIDE.
